Wedding Hair Flowers Fit for a Royal Wedding
Her hair was partially up as it swept gently to the back of her head and held in place with the flowers. This style is sure to be a popular choice for many brides as well as proms and other celebrations.
The good news is that the hairpiece is easy to make and lily-of-the-valley plants can be grown in a shade garden or forced into bloom in three to four weeks in winter or spring. If the flowers are ordered from a florist they will be very expensive because they only produce a few flowers on each plant and are only available in the spring.
Lily-of-the-valley plants can be ordered online. Six “pips” are $12 – $14 and they will multiply each season. They have a heavenly sweet fragrance, beautiful white tiny bell-shaped flowers, and dark green foliage. The meaning of the flower is “you will find happiness.”
To create a hair piece using lily-of-the-valley flowers, floral adhesive can be used to glue the stems to a hair clip, barrette, comb, headband, or wire wreath for a flower girl. Or the stems can be wired and taped in place. A tiny ball of cotton can be moistened and taped to the cut end of the flowers to make them last longer although they should last 3 – 5 days when cut.
Pippa’s hair piece was a simple design with slightly longer stems on each side and shorter pieces on the top, bottom and center. Of course, other flowers can be used as a floral hair piece, but it is important to use small or very light blooms. Heavy flowers are likely to pull the hair style out of place.
Other good choices are miniature varieties of gardenia, rose, or carnation. Cymbidium orchids are also a good choice. Tiny ivy, boxwood, or myrtle leaves make beautiful additions to the hair piece.
Hair pins can hold a single small bloom by tapping the flower to the end of the pin. Several pins can be placed through the hair style.
One of the loveliest hair pieces for the flower girl is a wreath of flowers and greenery. A florist wire is shaped into a circle and measured to fit the head. Flowers and greenery can be taped, wired, or glued with floral adhesive. Start by placing a piece of greenery (an ivy leaf is a good choice and easy to work with), overlap a flower slightly behind the first piece of greenery, add another piece of greenery, then a flower. Continue around the wire until it is covered. A small ribbon can be used where the wire is joined together to cover the ends. The headpiece can pin in place with bobby pins.
